How the five classes and Specialist fit together
The official game site describes five unique classes with major upgrades, followed by a Specialist endgame class for fully custom Marines. That wording makes Specialist different from a normal sixth starting class: it is presented as a customization layer that draws on what the player has unlocked elsewhere. The official Specialist showcase reinforces that design by showing abilities and perks associated with other classes in one build.
This page does not convert short promotional showcases into a complete tier list. A class can have a clear intended function without there being enough evidence to rank its damage, survivability, leveling speed, or value at every difficulty. “Best class” remains a separate research question because a fair answer needs tested encounters, party composition, unlock state, and a stated difficulty.
The practical first decision is therefore role preference, not a universal winner. Players who want direct team sustain can begin with the official Medic description, while players interested in control or automated tools can review Hunter and Machinist. Duelist and Marauder need fuller reviewed ability records before this guide makes the same level of mechanical comparison.
Medic: healing, buffs, and safer revives
The official Medic showcase says Medic Kit abilities are built to keep the player and the team alive. It shows Adrenaline Surge as a way to provide increased damage resistance and knock-back immunity, while Overclock instead increases fire rate for the player and allies and improves the Medic’s reload speed. These are presented as alternative upgrade directions rather than effects that should be assumed active together.
The Advanced Trauma Station can also be modified. The official examples describe Buffing Station as increasing damage and damage resistance for allies in range, while Poison Station changes the station toward damage over time against enemies. That contrast gives Medic an officially demonstrated choice between a team-support zone and an offensive area effect.
Bedside Manner and Surgeon’s Hands are two perk examples in the showcase. Bedside Manner is described as making revives twice as fast, while Surgeon’s Hands provides knock-back immunity during interactions, revives, or item use. The listed signature weapons are the X1 Fireball and Type 21 Tactical Shotgun Mk.II, but this page does not attach unofficial damage values to either weapon.
Hunter: slow and control dangerous targets
The official Hunter showcase frames the class around slowing prey and controlling the battlefield. Cryo Pulse is shown as a way to freeze Xenomorphs, and Stasis Bolt leaves trapped targets slowed and vulnerable to attacks. Those descriptions support calling Hunter a control-oriented class without claiming that every enemy, boss, or difficulty responds identically.
The showcase also names No Mercy and No Rest as perk examples intended to help against strong Xenomorphs. It lists the BD-03 Djinn Personal Railgun and Type 111 Directed Particle Emitter as Hunter signature weapons. Exact cooldowns, stack rules, damage multipliers, and optimal perk combinations are not reproduced here because the reviewed source excerpt does not establish a complete data sheet.
For squad planning, Hunter’s verified value proposition is creating attack windows by slowing or freezing threats. Whether that is more useful than healing, automated fire, or direct offense depends on the encounter and the rest of the fireteam. A future build page must test those choices rather than repeating showcase language as a universal recommendation.
Machinist: turret and drone support
Official Steam news describes Machinist as having access to energy weaponry, a modifiable Sentry Turret, and a Bodyguard Drone. Gas Turret and Rumble Turret appear as turret modifiers with different ways to damage or slow threats. Artillery Bodyguard and Shredder Bodyguard similarly change the drone toward long-range or close-range support.
The showcase gives Cross-Platform Synergy as a perk example. Allies in turret range receive 10% damage resistance, while the Machinist in range increases turret health regeneration by five health per second. Scalable Machine Learning is described as granting reload speed and stability when machines or item-based turrets get kills, stacking up to five times.
The official signature weapons shown for Machinist are the SMB-94 Zephyr Plasma Emitter and EDS-93 Zadak Plasma Discharger Mk.2. Those names establish class flavor and official examples, not a complete weapon restriction table. This guide will not claim that an unlisted weapon is impossible to use without confirming the game’s loadout rules first-hand.
Duelist and Marauder details remain bounded
Daybreak’s official press video page lists a Duelist showcase, so Duelist is not an inferred class name. The reviewed material in this research pass did not provide the same text-level ability breakdown captured for Medic, Hunter, or Machinist. This page therefore confirms Duelist’s place in the roster while withholding a detailed mechanical summary.
To be confirmed: the complete Marauder ability set, upgrade branches, perk examples, signature weapons, and intended team role. The class name belongs in the roster, but filling the missing fields from community posts or another guide would violate this site’s evidence boundary. The page will expand only after an official showcase or first-hand capture is reviewed.
Specialist: the customizable endgame class
The official site calls Specialist an endgame class for fully custom Marines, and the official showcase says it can access unlocked class abilities and perks. That means its strength depends on what has already been unlocked rather than on one fixed kit described at character creation. The showcase demonstrates a Shredder Bodyguard paired with Particle Beam and shows Focus Fire and Doctor’s Orders as perk examples.
The same Specialist video lists the L56A3 Smartgun and M41A2 Pulse Rifle as signature-weapon examples. It does not, in the reviewed text, provide the exact campaign milestone, level, challenge, or menu action that unlocks Specialist. The separate “how to unlock Specialist” keyword therefore stays marked research-required instead of being answered with a guess.
Patch 1 notes also demonstrate why exact build advice should be versioned. Daybreak changed or corrected several perks and class interactions at launch, including companion-bot perks and Hardened Nature behavior. A Specialist build written without the current patch and tested unlock state can become wrong quickly, so this page stays at the officially supported overview level.

The video below is linked from Daybreak’s official press video page. It is useful for seeing how the customizable class is presented, but visuals alone do not establish every number, unlock condition, or balance conclusion. Any later Specialist build guide will cite the current patch and document its first-hand test conditions.
